How much does a move cost?

This is the most frequently asked question and there is no definite answer. The cost of a move is based on many factors: weight, distance, conditions of the locations, and the manpower involved.

How do I get an estimate?

Best Deal Movers strives to provide as accurate an estimate as possible. Talking with one of our office staff is an excellent way to secure an estimate; he/she will compile a thorough inventory of the items to be moved and both the load/unload conditions. You can also submit a “free moving estimate” by filling out an inventory sheet on our website at If the inventory is quite large or if you are requesting our crew to pack your household items, we will be glad to come to your home to provide an estimate.

Doesn’t it cost more to use a full-service mover?

When making the important decision of moving, it may seem as though doing it yourself is the most budget friendly option; however, after all factors are considered, hiring professional movers may be the more cost-effective solution. Consider what is gained by hiring Best Deal Movers. Employing professional movers saves you time, stress, and effort. The moving services are entrusted to highly trained professionals who can efficiently pack, load, and unload your things. Heavy appliances, large furniture, and fragile items are difficult to load securely and unload without incurring damage. Skilled professional movers have the expertise to handle these more difficult belongings. Also, if any damage is incurred during moving, the moving company bears the responsibility. If you self-move, any repairs or replacements are borne by you.

Will it cost more if the movers have to take an elevator or stairs?

These conditions do affect the time the move will take and therefore does affect the cost of the move. If your move does require elevator use, one of the best money-saving measures a customer can take is to reserve the elevator for exclusive use.

How does Best Deal Movers charge for services?

Because we are a licensed mover in the state of Georgia, we conform to the policies and rates of the Georgia Public Service Commission. Local moves are considered to be moves that are less than 51 miles from the load location to the unload location and the cost is an hourly rate which is based on the number of men needed to handle the size of your move. The hourly rate begins accruing when the movers reach your location and ends when the last piece of furniture is removed from the truck and placed where you would like it in your new home. Moves that are longer than 51 miles are charged according to weight and distance.

Why do I need to pay a deposit?

In order to reserve your moving date and crew, there is a nonrefundable deposit which is the travel fee. We do this to ensure that you have the correct equipment and necessary staff available on the day of the move and to protect ourselves against customers who schedule more than one mover and then use whichever company shows up first. Unfortunately this sometimes has happened.

Is Best Deal Movers licensed and insured?

Yes. Best Deal Movers complies with all rules, regulations, and insurance obligations required by the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Is Best Deal Movers a full-service company?

Yes. Our goal is to provide our customers with as stress-free moving experience as possible. When we arrive at the job site, we have all the necessary tools (dollies, appliance dollies, hand tools, etc.) to complete the job. Everything that we disassemble, we will reassemble. We use the upgraded, highest quality moving blankets to protect your furniture; we also stretch wrap your furniture to protect it and insure that items with drawers or doors will stay closed.

Will the crew be on time?

We strive for 100% on-time arrival for our jobs. However, unforeseeable situations can arise, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or customers who have more furniture than stated when they were scheduled, and this can affect the window scheduled for the arrival of the assigned crew. Our office staff is always in contact with our drivers. In the rare event that some delay should occur, you will be notified and provided with an estimated time of arrival. Again, late arrivals are rare as we do add on a grace period of time to each job in order to minimize late occurrences.

Do I need to be home during the move?

On the day of the move you need to be present. There is paperwork to sign and you need to show the movers exactly what is being moved. After the movers have loaded the truck, you will be asked to do a walk through. That is the time to point out anything that may have been missed; once the truck drives away they are done at that location. At the unload, the movers will place boxes in rooms based on the rooms written on the boxes (i.e. bedroom, kitchen, garage, etc.) Furniture will be placed in the location you specify. It is helpful if you already have a basic idea where you want furniture placed. If the movers have to keep rearranging and switching furniture around, it will take longer and remember, the final cost of local moves is based on the time it takes to complete the move.

Can Best Deal Movers disconnect my appliances?

Best Deal Movers does not disconnect or reconnect gas appliances or water lines. We are not plumbers; because of insurance policies, we can’t connect any water lines at the unload location. If your current residence or new residence is an apartment, standard procedure at many complexes is for the maintenance man to complete the connections for you.

Can I leave my clothes in a dresser or chest of drawers?

Lightweight clothing, such as sweaters, shirts, blouses, and lingerie, may be left in the drawers. Do not fill drawers with heavy items, such as books, table linens, or sheets, which can damage the piece of furniture during transit. Be careful NOT to leave fragile items, money, jewelry, watches, or other valuable in the drawers, as well as anything that might spill or leak.

What happens if I need to postpone my move?

We know that sometimes things happen that are beyond our clients control and we will do everything we possibly can to adjust to the new schedule.

What happens if it is raining the day of our move?

Most of the time bad weather doesn’t interfere with your move. Usually the distance from the entrance to your house to the truck is minimal therefore minimizing exposure. If there is severe inclement weather, including, but not limited to rain, tornado activity, ice, etc., Best Deal Movers does reserve the right to reschedule the move at an agreed upon time without liability.

Is my furniture protected against damage?

Yes, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depends upon the “valuation” program you choose. The valuation option you select determines the basis upon which any claim will be adjusted and establishes the maximum liability of Best Deal Movers. Below is the information regarding valuation choices on the Bill of Lading. All licensed movers in the state of Georgia are required to offer the same. The Georgia Public Service Commission requires the valuation to be figured at a minimum of $5000 per room. Option 1 is the option is provided at no charge to the customer. The current cost for Option 2A is $11.30 per thousand dollars of declared value. The current cost for Option 2B is $3.75 per thousand dollars of declared value. We always recommend that you check with your insurance agent to see if there is coverage under your policy.

ADDENDUM TO UNIFORM HOUSEHOLD GOODS: GEORGIA BILL OF LADING: This document details the Carrier’s Liability. Your mover’s liability may be less than the value of your goods. According to law, carriers are not liable for the full value of your property unless you pay an additional charge for that protection. There are three options available to cover loss and/or damage:

  • Option 1 – Actual Cash Value – this option provides reimbursement for loss and damage not exceeding three hundred ($300.00) dollars per move, based on the depreciated value. There is no additional charge for this option.
  • Option 2A – Full Value Protection – this option provides coverage based on the current replacement value at the time of loss of damage. Carrier shall have the option of repairing and/or restoration to the original condition. Additional charges may apply based on the deductible chosen and the replacement value. (an example would be 6 rooms =$30,000 valuation would cost $339.)
  • Option 2B – This option provides coverage based on the current replacement value at the time of loss or damage. The shipper is responsible for a $300.00 deductible. (an example would be 6 rooms=$30,000 valuation would cost $112.50)

It is important to understand that a “carrier’s liability” and “insurance” are not the same thing. We really can’t make a recommendation regarding the insurance. The Georgia Public Service Commission believes it’s a good idea to see your insurance agent to determine if you need additional coverage. Reputable movers will explain their liability for loss or damage to your property and how you can increase your protection. All licensed movers must provide you with a Liability Addendum. If you are moving out-of-state, there is a separate document that will be provided.

What if an item is damaged during the move?

We pride ourselves in our ability to safely transport all of your items. Through proper packing and moving techniques, we can significantly reduce the chance of damage to your possessions. If you do find that an item has been damaged as a result of the move, please contact us immediately and we can assist in determining an appropriate resolution.

Can Best Deal Movers transport my plants?

In compliance with the Georgia Public Service Commission, Best Deal Movers cannot transport live plants.

How do I pay for my move?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and cash.

Am I supposed to tip the movers?

Everyone likes a reward for a job well done! Tipping is optional; if you feel the movers worked hard and took care of you, then a tip is very appreciated. Those that do tip tend to give either a small percentage of the entire move, or a small dollar amount per mover per hour. In the end, you should only tip an amount you are comfortable with.
